Coach Copeland has taught classes in the Tri-State area for over 15
years. He started fencing in 1991 at the age of 20, first training in
classical fencing with Shenandoah Swordsmen, under Dr. Peter Ryan.
(Coach Ryan was a student of the famous champion, Georgio Santelli.)

By 1993, David advanced to an assistant coach and took over as head
coach in 1994. Although highly competitive in the sport, winning
countless medals, he felt his calling was to be the teacher and expose
people of all ages to the sport he loves so much. From 1996-1998, he
was hired as head coach of Shepherdstown Fencing club. In 1998, he
started his own fencing club, Out of Nowhere Fencing.

Since 2001, coaching has been his full-time career. His students have
won countless gold medals and many have qualified for Nationals and
Junior Olympics time and again. His proven teaching methods have
produced fencers who understand and love the sport.

As with any sport, it all begins with proper instruction, taught by a
qualified and dedicated teacher/coach. Fencing is no different in this
regard. Coach Copeland has developed a fencing program with proven
results and is very dedicated in seeing his students succeed.
